APTA—GERIATRICS ACADEMY
From Legacy to Hybrid Model
Challenge
Upskilling Physical Therapists
APTA Geriatrics Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults (CEEAA) was taught in-person over 3 non-consecutive weekends for over 15 years. The association explored different hybrid models over several years and during the COVID Pandemic, was pushed to act. But how do you transition a highly technical and demonstrative course into a hybrid course? And how do you translate multiple performance labs and clinical assessments into an on-demand learning environment while still providing opportunities to demonstrate and practice?
As with most association learning businesses, participants work in a variety of environments which affect their learning needs. APTA Geriatrics is no different. The learner can work in acute care, home health, and outpatient. Although much of the content is transferable to each setting, the work environments require a variety of tests and measures, applications, and clinical decision-making. Watch the video for more details on the solution.
Working with Walden Group allowed us to think differently and more creatively about delivering online education to our community. Walden Group responded to our questions quickly and professionally, ensuring the course was high-quality. I appreciated their suggestions for future improvements as well!
